Kronosaurus Korner is part of the Cultural Gifts Program, which has been set-up by the Federal government by the Department of Communications and the Arts.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Cultural Gifts Program offers tax incentives (deductions and capital gains tax exemptions) to people who donate cultural items (e.g. fossils) to registered Australian public collections, such as Kronosaurus Korner. These donations are typically accepted from property owners of specimens deemed important (for display or research) to the museum’s collection by the curator.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO DONATION:
(1) The process starts by contacting Kronosaurus Korner and having our curator conduct a significance assessment of your fossil find.
(2) Obtaining two valuations of the market value of your gift at the time of the donation from approved valuers. (Kronosaurus Korner will arrange valuation or help you find an approved valuer).
(3) Kronosaurus Korner will submit to the Department of Communications and the Arts the following on your behalf: i) a Certificate of donation, ii) Donation summary/statement of significance and, iii) two valuation certificates from approved valuers and, iv) quality colour images of the item(s).
(4) The Department of Communications and the Arts will assess your submission and send you a letter advising if you can claim the relevant tax deduction as part of your next income tax assessment.
*Overall this process can take up to 7-8 months (at least), so we ask people to please be patient.
